What bait & how I use it
A very big subject really.

I'm no biologist but I do think that fish have poor eye sight.

There seems to be more light coloured baits that catch fish
(sweetcorn, bread, maggots, cockles, prawns, luncheon meat)
you probably know of more.

Whether this is purely a coincidence I don`t know.

They seem to rely on smell a great deal

When deciding what bait to use on a particular water
I think you have to go on what you've used to catch fish before

What information you can gain from other sources

But be prepared to try anything.

Whenever I go fishing I take as many different baits as I can.
plenty of some and a few of others

Going out tomorrow  (14 November)
the baits I will take will be:
2 Rounds of fresh white bread
Good handful of frozen sweetcorn
8 or 10 prawns
12 cockles
1/4 tin luncheon meat
1/2 pt maggots

Expander pellets
4 mm & 6 mm

In the bottom of my bag is a box with
8 mm halibut pellets
6 mm yellow boilies

Most importantly
1/2 pt of soaked micros

The soaked micro pellet is the backbone of my bait.

This is my feeder bait
The way I feed is little and often

You may say I take this to an extreme
But I make no apologies for this
because it works for me
I cannot remember the last time I had a blank day.

In summer I will feed about 20 micro pellets every minute
In the winter I reduce this to 10 every minute

I keep this up all the time whether I am catching or not
I think a steady stream of food drifting down through the water
is better than one big lump every hour

When I feed sweet corn in the summer I feed only 4 pieces, 1 at a time every 2 minutes
I am sure the plop of each piece going in attracts the fish.

The main reason for all this is to attract the fish to your bait.
You see too many anglers sitting there just waiting for the odd fish to swim past their bait
